SENSUS UNVEILS NEW READING SOFTWARE
1st May 2010Sensus, the leading metering systems company, has launched its latest generation remote reading software - providing utilities with greatly enhanced water meter reading capability.
SensusREAD makes the data collection from meters linked to the Sensus((S))cout AMR system significantly quicker – enabling around 4,000 meters to be read each day compared to an average of 200 a day using manual methods.
In case of one UK utility, the new software has increased remote read capability to around 450 meters an hour, compared to a previous daily average of 500 meters using touch-read technology. By using controlled polling of the AMR endpoints, SensusREAD enables the read engineer simply to walk his or her route while automatically collecting the meter data. In addition, engineers can even mix routes of radio, touch and manual read meters because the software automatically presents the correct user interface.
“This new software sets a new standard for remote read productivity – and helps to optimise the return on the investment in AMR,” says Tom Mills of Sensus UK. “The combination of AMR and faster data collection makes for much more efficient end-to-end data and billing processing.”
The latest SensusREAD has certainly proven its worth at Sutton & East Surrey Water, where a recent trial was shown to improve the speed of data collection from 500 meters per day to up to 450 meters in an hour.
Says Jeremy Heath of Sutton & East Surrey Water: “In a recent test, we asked our reader to try to ‘outpace’ the remote read, but no matter how fast he walked he couldn’t get in front of the data read-out from his hand-held device. Not so much a remote walk-by solution - more a ‘stride-by’.”
Sensus((S))cout AMR technology offers an unbroken and seamless data chain from the meter point up to the billing process. The result is an AMR system that is not only ideally suited to new applications, it is also backwards compatible, enabling utilities to benefit from the cost and performance gains associated with AMR in existing meter networks.
