Rowners Phase 2 Planning Application is Submitted
12th August 2010The Rowner Renewal Partnership submitted today its detailed planning application for Phase 2 of its multi-million pound regeneration project. The detailed application involves the area of Darwin Way, Livingstone Court and Raleigh Walk. Public consultation drop in sessions took place earlier this month and over 70 residents came to see the proposals for Phase 2 and speak to members of the Design Team. The plans include 101 new flats with a 10-storey tower and its replacement telecommunications equipment, the Tesco supermarket, three smaller retail units and an area of open space with a children’s play area.
The feedback from residents was very positive and the colour scheme of red/cream was chosen for the residential tower. Following consultation, the Design Team also changed the position of the substation after valued feedback from residents.
Gosport Borough Council’s Planning Committee is expected to reach a decision in October 2010. If all goes smoothly, the completion target for Phase 2 is expected between 2012 and 2013. In the meantime, the plans for Phase 2 will shortly be available on the Rowner Renewal website www.rownerrenewal.com, at the Nimrod Community Centre and on Gosport Borough Council’s website www.gosport.gov.uk once the application has been registered.
Phase 1 of the project includes 219 new homes and construction work has already commenced at the Howe Road end of the area. Residents are expected to move in by the end of the year. There is also an Alver Village Sales and Information Centre for residents to view the private sales opportunities within Phase 1. This is open on Monday (1-5pm) and from Tuesday-Sunday (10am-5pm) First Wessex also are there on Thursday to talk to people about affordable housing sales.
The Compulsory Purchase Order for the complete Rowner Renewal area has been issued by Gosport Borough Council. First Wessex (the new name for Portsmouth Housing Association) now owns 357 of the 506 homes (70%). It is also now the freehold owner of the Precinct building having completed on the purchase on 28 July.
Any resident who requires further information or wishes to discuss what happens next, should contact First Wessex on the Rowner Renewal Enquiry Line: 08450 343317.
