Parkeon and Vision Systems Technology see the Future
2nd November 2010A partnership between Parkeon and Vision Systems Technology UK is helping bus operators to plan for a new era of information capture and surveillance monitoring.
The agreement between the two companies is not only delivering best-in-class CCTV performance to operators such as National Express, it is also opening up a future in which system integration will yield major operational benefits beyond countering vandalism and fraud.
“Today, CCTV plays a critical role in supporting fleet performance and combating anti-social behaviour,” says Owen Griffith, Managing Director of Parkeon Transit Ltd. “However, it is the ability of Parkeon to integrate surveillance technology within its back offer software that really enhances operator benefit, for example by processing driver, route and vehicle performance. It also opens up opportunities for multimedia applications, fuel management, Live Transmission for Fleet Management and complete system status reporting.”
The relationship between the companies came to fruition in 2008, when Parkeon trialled the “ SaVety Eye “ Digital Video Recording System (DVR) with a local bus operator to test the quality of recorded images at the highest frame rate possible on the CCTV system (Real Time Recording). The system was also set up to transmit images and receive configuration files via Wireless LAN and 3G. The trial was successful and results proved that the system was robust and provided the highest quality images at the most efficient compression to allow easy telemetry.
Following on from this project, both companies started work on integrating the system into Parkeon’s Universal Back Office Software user interface. This allowed Parkeon to offer the new system to operators using other products with similar functionality without the need to make any operational changes. The Digital Recorder also interfaces to Parkeon’s Wayfarer3, Wayfarer150 and Wayfarer200 ticket machines to record Driver, Route, Journey, Duty, Direction and Fares issued. The data is collected by the DVR and transmitted along with video requested video images to the depot system for processing driver, route and vehicle performance reporting as well as advanced fraud detection via exception reporting.
One of the major successes of the relationship so far has been the contract with National Express West Midlands, which now operates both the previous and new systems at several depots. The system was extended to include National Express Dundee in Scotland in 2010.
Says Owen Griffith: “Our partnership with Vision Systems Technology has created one of the most advanced surveillance solutions for the transport industry. Our 35 years of transport systems design, installation and support backed with best in class CCTV system designers puts Parkeon in prime position to offer integrated solutions to those operators who use CCTV daily for fraud and performance reporting.”
Carl Putman, CEO at Vision Systems, said: “Our very modern and powerful electronic architecture allows quick integration within the systems of our partners and customers. This is possible thanks to one multifunctional box within the vehicle that links to the back office and allows bus and coach operators to increase their efficiency and flexibility. This “all in one” concept that we currently promote with Parkeon is unique in Europe.”
