Halton Joins the Smartest Generation

2nd November 2010

Halton Borough Transport is joining the smart revolution, choosing its third generation of Wayfarer ticket machines to support its move to ITSO functionality.

The company has specified Parkeon’s Wayfarer200 ticketing platform for the Merseytravel ITSO scheme, which along with Halton involves several operators, including Arriva North West, CumfyBus, Avon Buses and Supertravel.  The scheme will ensure regional validation and reconciliation of the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS) smartcards.

Each Halton bus will be fitted with the Wayfarer200 ETM, with integrated contactless smartcard reader, GPS functionality for fares stage updates and GPRS functionality for RTI “Over the Air” (OTA) protocol transmission. GPS coordinates recorded by the ETM will be transmitted over GPRS to the Merseytravel Back Office System as part of the area’s Real Time Information system.

Chris Adams, Managing Director at Halton Borough Transport, said : “Wayfarer ticketing technology has given many years of reliable service over many years, so the latest generation Wayfarer200 platform was the natural choice to take us into the ITSO era.”

Ryan Thomas, Key Account Manager at Parkeon, said:“The relationship developed over many years with Halton Borough Transport underlines Parkeon’s commitment to working with operators of all sizes to deliver competitive advantage through technology.”
