AVERAGE TICKET VALUES FALL

8th February 2011

Average rail fares paid by the corporate customers of Travel Management Companies (TMCs) look set to fall below £60 in 2011, as the double effect of austerity measures and smart procurement takes hold.

Evolvi Rail Systems, which powered over half of all TMC rail bookings made online in the UK in 2010, reported at the Travel Technology Europe show that average ticket values (AVTs) fell from £66 to £61 last year – and are set to go even lower in the next six months despite recent fares increases.

Evolvi grew its revenue by 8% to £262m in 2010, helping TMCs arrange over 4.25m rail journeys for their customers. The figures for the online rail booking and fulfilment specialists – the preferred choice of eight of the UK’s top 10 TMCs – confirm Evolvi’s leadership in the TMC rail sector.

Says Ken Cameron, Evolvi Rail Systems’ Managing Director: “Corporate entities are buying smarter and this, combined with lower demand for first class travel, will likely lead to ATVs falling below £60 in 2011, even taking account of the above inflation fares increases in January. It’s clear that businesses and public sector organisations are increasingly focused on smart procurement systems, with over 60% of Evolvi rail bookings last year making use of self-booking tools via our TMC customers.”

Evolvi also announced at the Earls Court show that it will soon unveil the next generation of its award winning rail booking and fulfillment system.

“We have listened to our customers and the new platform will feature streamlined processes and new functionality that will add still greater value to the TMC-corporate relationship,” says Ken Cameron.
