South West winners announced in the EEF Future Manufacturing Awards 2011

Vale Europe Limited has been announced as the winner of the EEF South West Region Environmental Efficiency Award sponsored by ENER-G, in a ceremony held at the @Bristol conference venue.

The Swansea based company, which manufactures high purity nickel products, won the award for the success of its project to build on existing waste management systems to significantly reduce the amount of waste sent for disposal, by identifying and pursuing opportunities to re-use or recycle.

The annual awards are hosted by EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, and recognise excellence in enterprise, innovation, environmental performance and skills development among UK manufacturers.

Paul Knight, South West Region Director for EEF, commented: “Manufacturing in the South West is vitally important as an economic driver for the UK with over 11,500 manufacturing businesses contributing £12.5billion to the local economy.  Companies like Vale Europe are leading the way by working hard to reduce its impact on the environment through its hugely successful project. Congratulations to them on winning this award.”

Cedric Rodrigues, Divisional Director for  ENER-G, environmental partner to the EEF, said: “We salute the achievements of our winners and the example they have set in demonstrating that excellence in energy and environmental performance leads to commercial success. Judging by the high standard of entries this year, the future of sustainable manufacturing is in great hands.”
