7th November 2011South West winners announced in the EEF Future Manufacturing Awards 2011
Alcoa has been announced as the winner of the EEF South West Region Innovative People Management Award sponsored by JAM Recruitment, in a ceremony held at the @Bristol conference venue.
The Exeter based company, which manufactures aerospace and industrial gas turbine engine components, won the award for the way in which the company has implemented a new health and safety programme to overcome the unacceptable levels of severe injuries being experienced. It focussed on the state of mind that leads to errors and that prevents errors occurring.
The annual awards are hosted by EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, and recognise excellence in enterprise, innovation, environmental performance and skills development among UK manufacturers.
Paul Knight, South West Region Director for EEF, commented: “Manufacturing in the South West is vitally important as an economic driver for the UK, with over 11,500 manufacturing businesses contributing £12.5billion to the local economy. Companies like Alcoa are leading the way by adopting a new approach to health and safety training, which has resulted in their total recordable injuries dropping by 60%. Congratulations to them on winning this award.”
John Morris, Chief Executive of the EEF’s recruitment partner, JAM Recruitment said: “The entries we have seen this year are testimony to the talent, innovation and determination of the UK’s manufacturing sector. The contribution manufacturing makes to the UK economy can not be underestimated, and these awards are a much needed opportunity to celebrate the very best in this industry.“
