Novar ED&S (Honeywell) has been named runner-up in the Innovative People Management Award category of the national EEF Future Manufacturing Awards 2011 in a prestigious awards ceremony in London.

The success of the Leigh-on-Sea-based company, which manufactures the MK Electric brand of electrical wiring devices, including sockets, switches and cable management, confirms its position as one of the top performing manufacturers in the country.

The annual awards are hosted by EEF , the manufacturers’ organisation, and recognise excellence in enterprise, innovation, environmental performance and skills development among UK manufacturers.

Novar ED&S gained success in the Innovative People Management Award category sponsored by JAM Recruitment, for the way in which it implemented a very successful programme which fully engaged its workforce, achieved a reduction in staff absence and decreased running costs. The judges were particularly impressed with the emphasis placed on the importance of people and the part culture plays in all areas of the business.

Steven Mitchell, Vice President of HOS & Quality at Honeywell said: “People are our competitive differentiator at Honeywell; the team at ED&S Southend have really embraced this concept.  They have actively focused on increasing employee engagement across all of their business activities, with particular focus on safety, productivity and the overall customer experience.”

Jim Davison, South East Region Director for EEF, added: “Congratulations to Novar ED&S on their success at the National Finals. They have understood that by engaging all of their staff in the way the business operates, can lead to a reduction in operational costs while maintaining high levels of service and quality. They are a shining example to all 45,000 manufacturers in the  South East, who together contribute £45billion to the UK economy.”

John Morris, Chief Executive of JAM Recruitment, also commented: “These awards are testimony to just how much talent and tenacity there is in the UK’s manufacturing sector and help to showcase the many reasons why UK manufacturing is famous the world over. The market is tough, but our manufacturers are maintaining their competitive edge, and the sector is widely recognised as our nation’s great economic hope for the coming years – something that is certainly worth celebrating.”

Novar ED&S reached the national final, held at a glittering Gala Dinner at Plaisterers’ Hall , Old London Wall, by winning its category in the EEF South East regional competition.
